The invention relates to a self-service sales device for items of food, in particular pressure-sensitive and unpackaged loaves of bread. In known sales devices, it has previously not been possible to rule out the fact that customers touch the product or that the items of food come to rest on one another. Additionally, handling these known sales devices was cumbersome. According to the invention, the sales device consists of an elongate compartment with a shelf formed by a conveyor belt, on which the items of food lie in a row. The conveyor belt is driven by a motor which is actuated automatically by a switching device in such a way that one item of food in each case is located behind the removal opening ready for access to the customer.
