The invention relates to an improvement to the coin release for vending machines. During product extraction, the coins do not fall directly out of the release device into the cashbox, but first into an intermediate store. By means of an ejector which sweeps over the bottom of the intermediate store and which is driven by a lever moving during product extraction, the coins are thrown out of the intermediate store more or less vigorously, depending on the particular user. As a result, they do not concentrate underneath the coin release, but are distributed relatively uniformly in the cashbox.
