To ensure that vessels are not filled to different levels, the closing process of filling valves which are arranged on a rotating filling machine is to be completed independently of the valve involved as soon as the prescribed filling level of the container in question has been reached. To achieve this, it is proposed according to the invention that an actuating device be preferably arranged in the lower region of the valve gate, close the latter when the prescribed filling level has been reached and be operatively connected to a checking device which determines the filling level.
