A drive shaft runs at least approximately parallel to the hollow balance shaft and extends concentrically through it. The drive shaft and balance shaft are integrated into an internal combustion engine which is constructed as a three-cylinder in-line engine installed at right angles to the vehicle's direction of travel. The balance shaft is bearing-mounted in a housing which is constructed in one piece with the crankcase. The drive shaft is bearing-mounted in a valve gear cover fitted to the crankcase.
