The various flow properties of a cement mortar for use in packed spaces such as aggregate filled moulds or moulds contg. iron reinforcing bars, are determined by pairing the monitor into one limb of a U-tube, which limb contains a particulate plug exhibiting the resistance to flow of such a mould. More mortar is then introduced to cause further flow and a further static head, from which a further shear stress yielding value is computed. In the actual moulding operation, the mortar is prepd. using the above determined factors and the pairing conditions controlled to give a complete penetration of the mould.
