<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently recognize Kanji(Chinese character) deformed by manuscript, by recognizing a character through the density of directional contribution of each position of a plurality of coordinates, through the observation of character pattern from the plurality of coordinate axis directions in selecting a candidate character to be recognized. CONSTITUTION:A character frame taking the center of gravity of a character pattern of N-X-N mesh as a center is outputted from a character framing processor and the unevenness of one mesh of black points of character line part of the character frame is smoothed at a smoothing processing circuit 4. The smoothed character pattern is inputted to characteristic pickup circuits 6, 7 and 11 of a character pattern recognition device 5, the circuit 11 scans the character pattern from a plurality of coordinates, the number of character lines crossing at scanning is counted to form a characteristic table. The circuits 6 and 7, and classification processing circuits 8 and 9 split the character pattern to the mesh region, the degree of directional contribution of the character lines present in mesh regions is counter to form the characteristic table for classification. A candidate character selection circuit 10 selects the candidate character and a recognizing processing circuit 12 recognizes the character through the output of the circuits 10 and 11.</p> |
