PURPOSE:To save the metal material, increase the reliability of the fusing part, and enhance the characteristic of a metal vapor electric-discharge lamp by making the inner diameter of one end of a monolithic tube smaller than that of the other end of the tube, and fusing a fine metal wire into the above end having a smaller inner diameter. CONSTITUTION:The inner diameter of the ends of a ceramic monolithic tube 1 used as an emission tube is smaller than the inner diameter of the central part of the monolithic tube 1, and the inner diameter of one end 1a of the tube 1 is smaller than the inner diameter of the other end 1b, which is equal to that of a conventional monolithic tube. A fine metal wire 5 penetrating the hole of the end 1a of the tube 1 is fused to the part 1a by means of a fusing glass 4, and an electrode 2 is attached to the metal wire 5. A metal tube 3 used as an exhaust tube is fused to the end 1b in a conventional manner, and an electrode 2 is attached to the metal tube 3. Owing to the above constitution, the metal material can be saved by forming the end 1a from a ceramic member, and the reliability of the fusing part is increased. Consequently, the characteristic of the lamp can be enhanced by reducing the thermal loss and improving the heat-insulating property of the lamp. |
