PURPOSE:To clamp various steel pipe differing external diameter easily and securely by successively providing clamping rolls in a shape of a inversely truncated cone on both sides of a steel pipe pass line on a quenching floor, and moving them laterally and respectively. CONSTITUTION:An arm 52 is rotated to and fixed at the best position for clamping a steel pipe, or a material to be quenched at the minimum operation distance of a rod according to the tube diameter of the material to be quenched, and the intervals between clamping rolls 54 and 54a is adjusted. Then, the rod 55 is moved by a hydraulic cylinder to move the rolls 54 and 54a laterally, increasing the interval between the two. The steel pipe is sent onto a quenching floor 1 along a receiving roll 4 to bring its end part into contact with the nozzle of a water supply pipe, and the pipe is held by a holding device. The rod 55 is moved in the opposite direction to move the rolls 54 and 54a in the pass-line direction of the steel pipe, which is clamped by the rolls 54 and 54a. |
