A metering system is provided for addition of disinfectant and/or preservative for the washing liquid of air-conditioning systems. The metering system comprises a control unit (7) which controls a freshwater supply valve (10), a washing liquid drain valve (11) and a metering pump (8). The metering system can be operated in two ways: (a) in a periodically triggered clarification and regenerating operation for cleaning and renewal of the washing liquid, and (b) in a concentration-monitoring operation for maintaining a preselected concentration of the washing liquid by cyclical clarification of washing liquid and supply of freshwater alone until the concentration has dropped to the desired value again. <IMAGE>
