PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magnesium alloy which is successfully cast as a fluid in a metallic die or a mold to get a cast product having a creep-resistant characteristic and used at a comparatively high temperature. SOLUTION: A series of die-castable and creep-resistant magnesium alloys are used for such a purpose of a high temperature structure as an automobile engine, a transmission gear casing, or the like. Such an alloy includes 3% and 6% aluminum, 1.7% and 3.3% calcium, and strontium up to 0.2%, and 0.35% manganese. This alloy has creep resistances against a tensile and a compression load 25% larger than those of AE42, which is a commercially available magnesium alloy containing aluminum and rare-earth elements, and an excellent corrosion-resistant characteristic compatible with AZ91D. The cost of this alloy is estimated to be lower than that of AZ91D, and shows an excellent castability in a metallic mold when it is used for a casting with a permanent casting mold and for die-casting.
