The invention relates to an intaglio printing forme having intaglio printing screen webs and cups which are variable in depth and in surface area, wherein the intaglio printing forme has both intaglio printing screen webs and offset halftone dots, and wherein the offset halftone dots are primarily contained in the lighter tone regions and the intaglio printing screen webs are primarily contained in the shadow tone regions, the offset screen dots in the lighter tone regions, preferably also in the medium tone regions, at least partially having intaglio printing screen web contours at least at the bottom of the cups. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method of manufacturing an intaglio printing forme, wherein an offset screen positive or a letter press screen positive and an intaglio printing screen are used and multiple exposure of the pigment paper takes place, it being possible for at least one exposure stage to be carried out using scattered light, the pigment paper is developed after the exposure and is used in a manner which is known per se for etching an intaglio printing forme, wherein a screen mask is produced from a reversed offset screen positive and an intaglio printing screen negative, which screen mask contains the intaglio printing screen webs depending on the image information of the offset screen positive.
