An electromagnetic actuating device (10) for a position-controlled actuating element (16) is proposed which, as a servo valve spool of a hydraulic directional control valve (15), enables the speed of a hydraulic load to be controlled. The spring-centred servo valve spool (16) is operated by two magnets (22, 25) which can be connected to the regulator (13) via a changeover device (12) which is controlled in a directionally dependent manner, such that the magnet (22, 25) which deflects the servo valve spool (16) receives the control variable (Y) from the regulator (13), while the other magnet (25, 22) is connected to a measurement device (14) in order to detect the actual position value of the servo valve spool (16). The armature (23) which is in each case driving operates in the operating stroke range (A) of the magnet, and the armature (26) which forms the control variable (x) operates in the idle stroke region (L) with its greatly changing inductance. The direction and magnitude of the deflection of the servo valve spool (16) can thus be continuously controlled using suitable switching magnets (22, 25). <IMAGE>
