The method is for automatically advancing a carrier tape bearing a row of closely arranged self-adhesive labels. It is used to accurately place one label at a time in a position for printing text on the label and/or to affix the label to an article. The carrier tape is drawn forwards by motor-driven feed rollers (34) which temporarily halt the tape each time it moves through a distance corresponding to the length of a label. - During its passage between a storage reel and the feed rollers, the tape is caused to pass over and to drive a freely rotatable roller without slipping or sliding. The rotary movement of this roller is sensed and used to control the feed rollers.(1/3) |
