In order to vary the eye level of the microscope, provision is made between the eyepiece tube (9) and the objective tube (7) of a joint on the axis (15) of rotation of which there is arranged a hinged mirror (14) which is to be capable of being rotated about the common axis (15) of rotation in accordance with a pivoting movement of the eyepiece tube (9) while maintaining the beam path between the objective and the eyepiece. Provision is made for this purpose of a mechanism consisting of two lever arms (17 and 20) which extend approximately in the longitudinal direction of the axis (11) of the eyepiece tube and engage with one another via pins (21 and 22). <IMAGE>
