Method of eliminating leaks in the soldering joint of a television picture tube

For eliminating leaks in the soldering joint between the screen part (2) and the funnel-shaped glass part (3) of a television picture tube (1), it is proposed to remove the soldering joint (5) to part of its depth from the outside at the leaking point, thereby widening the gap (4) between the two glass parts (2 and 3), to fill the cavity (7) produced by the removal with glass solder (8) and to make the latter flow and crystallise out by heating to soldering temperature. This makes it possible by way of system renewal to regenerate even picture tubes in which capillary channels passing through the soldering joint have formed during operation and through which air was able to penetrate into the interior of the evacuated picture tube and destroy the vacuum. Until now, it was not possible to renew such picture tubes.
