In a device for testing rolled material, use is made of a thermal-imaging system with which the surface of the rolled material is observed at a temperature of the rolled material which is above the ambient temperature. The thermal image of the surface is represented on a monitor on which it is possible to detect defects both on the surface and in the interior of the rolled material.
