A checkout bench (2) is provided upon which a damaged motor vehicle body can be secured to facilitate straightening of the damaged body parts. The bench (2) has extendable legs (14) which can be extended and retracted by the operation of associated actuator means (16); preferably, the legs (14) are constituted by the operating rods (18) of hydraulic cylinders (16) constituting the actuator means. When extended, the legs (14) serve to hold the bench (2) a predetermined height from the ground. When the legs (14) are in their retracted condition, the bench (2) rests on the ground by means of wheels (20) carried by the bench (2).
