An electrical resistor is proposed having at least one resistance film, which is applied on a carrier, and a method for producing an electrical resistor. The electrical resistor (20) consists of a carrier (17) on which a resistor film (3) is applied, a resistor film (4) being applied on the other side, whose length (a') and width (b') are shorter than the length (a) and width (b) of the carrier (17), and a protective film (18) which is applied onto the resistance film (3, 4). The electrical connection (22) between the protective films (3, 4) can be made via a hole (21) in the carrier (17). In accordance with the method according to the invention, a solid resistance film is applied onto a base plate, which resistance film is split into individual resistance films, by means of an etching process, with separating joints being formed. After this, a laser beam is used to score along the course of the separating joints, and a protective film is subsequently applied onto the resistance film and the separating joints. The base plate is now broken along the scores in order to form the individual resistors. In consequence, automated, cost-effective and precise production of electrical resistors is possible. <IMAGE>
