PURPOSE:To improve the charge/discharge cycle of a secondary alkaline zinc battery, by using crystalline zinc oxide as the main active material of the cathode of the battery. CONSTITUTION:Hundred parts of crystalline zinc oxide powder and five parts of cadmium oxide are mixed well with each other. About five parts of polytetrafluoroethylene-dispersed liquid is added to the mixture. After that, these substances are diluted with water they are mingled and kneaded together. The kneaded material is rolled several times to make a zinc sheet of prescribed thickness. Such zinc sheets are tightly secured on both the sides of a cathode current collector plate 2, thereby providing a cathode 1. Since the crystalline zinc oxide is used as the main active material of the cathode 1, the generation of zincic acid ions which would be the main cause of the electrodeposition of dendritic or spongy zinc is suppressed to greatly improve the charge/discharge cycle of the secondary alkaline zinc battery. |
