For the production of compressed air from wave energy an installation is used comprising a floating island (23), on which at least one oscillating float (45) is supported by way of a water inflow surface (17) so that it can rise and fall, a support cylinder (52), one end of which is connected to the oscillating float (45) and the other end of which acts on a swivel element, capable of oscillating movements, in the form of a balance beam (36), the swivel movements of which are transmitted directly to high pressure compression cylinders (38), and lines, which connect the working chambers (73) of the high pressure compression cylinders (38) to high pressure accumulators (13) and low pressure accumulators (11) on the island (23). The oscillating float (45), mounted so that it can swivel vertically, performs an oscillating movement with the swell and this oscillating movement is used for the actuation of the pistons (68) of the high pressure compression cylinders (38) in order to compress air in the latter. The compressed air is led through pipes to the high pressure accumulator (13) in which it can easily be stored. The compressed air is advantageously used to power large slow running air motors by way of a large flywheel for driving generators for power generation. <IMAGE>
