The invention relates to a process for producing multi-colour designs or decorations on single-colour textile fabric. In a known handicraft method, coloured yarn corresponding to the particular design is looped onto a prepared semi-finished woven fabric (canvas) via individual weaves of the fabric by means of an appropriate needle. For this purpose, the appropriate quantity of correspondingly coloured yarn pieces of appropriate length must be added to the canvas. The materials required for carrying out the known process are costly and the work is highly time-consuming. According to the invention, the new process provides the user with a fabric having knobs, a single-colour yarn being used and the surface features of this fabric corresponding to those of a ready hand-embroidered canvas. The fabric knobs analogous to a master are loaded individually in succession with a selected dye. In the process according to the invention, no coloured yarns are required, on the contrary the single-colour yarn of the initial material is coloured with a textile dye at the appropriate points in spots or in delimited regions. Preferably, the individual knobs are provided with the respective associated dye by means of a stamping apparatus, that is to say the yarn is saturated with the dye at the corresponding point. The invention also embraces apparatuses (stamping apparatuses) for applying the textile dye to the selected knobs.
