A device is described by means of which large different distances between parts which are to be connected to one another can be bridged over in a force-fitting manner, the transmitted force being kept within tight limits. To this end, it is constructed from at least two supporting rings, which can be pushed one inside the other like a telescope, of which at least one has weak-point projections on one of its envelope surfaces. The end side of another supporting ring rests against said projections. A spring device is provided which is compressed when the parts which are to be connected to one another approach one another. If the compression force exceeds a specific value, the weak-point projection or projections is or are sheared off. The rigid frame, consisting of the supporting rings, is shortened by a specific amount while the spring device is relieved of tension. By means of a plurality of groups of weak-point projections, which are located at axially different positions on one or more supporting rings, the shortening of the rigid frame consisting of the supporting rings and the relief of tension in the spring device, associated therewith, can be repeated many times. A special field of application is in the design as a sealing device, which is used especially in the assembly of sanitary shut-off valve upper parts in valve housings in which the retention space is of different depth. <IMAGE>
