Process for the removal of acid gases from gaseous streams

Hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and carbonyl sulfide are removed from a gas stream in a staged procedure characterized by absorption of the CO2 and COS and conversion of the hydrogen sulfide to produce sulfur in an absorbent mixture, hydrolysis of the carbonyl sulfide to produce a gas stream of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, and removal of the hydrogen sulfide from the gas stream.
