PURPOSE:To prevent a spring from biting sand and dust, in a recoil starter of an engine, by arranging a starting rope winding pulley in an engine cover while the spring in a separately located spring housing chamber. CONSTITUTION:A side part of an engine cover 3 is partially hollowed to form a spring housing chamber 4 by the hollowed part and a cap 5, and a wall part 3a is penetrated to provide a shaft 15, then a pulley 12 and spring 17 are provided respectively in the cover 3 and the housing chamber 4. At starting operation of an engine, a starting rope 18 is pulled to rotate the winding pulley 12, then a ratchet wheel 13 is engaged to a click 10 to rotate a crankshaft 6 and start the engine, if a rotary speed is increased to at least a prescribed level after starting, the click 10 is disengaged from the wheel 13 by centrifugal force. When the rope 18 is loosened, the winding pulley 12 is rotated by the sring 17, and the rope 18 is wound to said pulley. In this way, the spring 17 is arranged in the separate chamber, then the spring 17 is not stained even if muddy water is intruded from a rope pull-out hole 3b. |
