Accelerometer of the spring-mass type comprising, in a housing, a balanced vibrating mass, a spring constituted by at least one hollow piezoelectric element situated between the mass and the housing, as well as a fastening element traversing the mass and secured to the housing. In addition, a prestressing element situated between the fastening element and a recess provided in the mass urges the latter towards the housing. The piezoelectric element surrounding the mass is then compressed. The point of application of the prestressing force and the center of gravity of the mass are in the same median plane of the piezoelectric spring, which plane is transversal and perpendicular to the axis of the housing.
