PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic raw material for vitamin B1, etc. in high yield at a low cost, by the oxidative dehydrogenation of beta-aminopropionitrile in the vapor phase with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen in the presence of a specific metallic oxide as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:beta-Aminopropionitrile in the vapor phase is subjected to the oxidative dehydrogenation with oxygen or a gas containing the oxygen in the presence of a metallic oxide expressed by the formula (A is Fe, Cr, etc.; B is Ni, Co, Mn, etc.; C is alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, etc.; D is P, As, etc.; a is 0.1-24; b is 0-24; c is 0-2; d is 0-5; x is the number of oxygen atoms necessary for satisfying the valence of the metallic component contained in the catalyst) as a catalyst to give the aimed compound. The reaction temperature is usually 350-550 deg.C, and the contact time of the raw material with the catalyst is 0.01-20sec. The method is advantageous due to no formation of maleonitrile and fumaronitrile as by-products which cannot be easily separated and purified. |
