This invention consists of a simple device 10 for extracting peat and includes a screw-transporter in the form of a feeder screw 12 included in an external housing 14 preferably in a pipe shape. The housing has a longitudinal opening 26 which partially exposes the screw 12 and during use the transporter 12, 14 is put down vertically in the bog and is moved in the direction of the opening 26. During this time the feeder screw 12 continually moves the peat material through the housing 14 to an outlet 16 above the ground surface 36. The screw 12 can be driven by a hydraulic motor 34 and the device can be moved across the tractor or something similar which also can provide power for the hydraulic motor 34.
