PURPOSE:To prepare a liquid hydrocarbon from an oxygen-containing compound such as alcohol, ether, aldehyde, carboxylic acid, etc. in high efficiency, by using a catalyst comprising a specific crystalline silicate containing a pentavalent metallic element in the crystal structure. CONSTITUTION:A >=5C liquid hydrocarbon is prepared from an oxygen-containing compund, in high selectivity, with long catalyst life and easy operation, by using a catalyst comprising a crystalline silicate composed of (A) silicon or silicon and aluminum, (B) a pentavalent metallic element (As, Sb or Bi) and (C) an element selected from H, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal, and represented by the formula (M is H, alkali metal, or alkaline earth metal; Z is pentavalent metallic element; n is valency of M; 0<p<=0.1; 0<=a<1; 0<b<1). |
