PURPOSE:To realize a dot printer which can print efficiently even characters entirely low usage frequency, without giving burden to the host side, by using a character generator prepared in advance for characters with high usage frequency. CONSTITUTION:A character signal from a host computer 11 at the host side is applied to a latch 12, the information is stored in the latch 12 and applied to a discrimination circuit 17. The circuit 17 discriminates if a character corresponding to the information is stored in a character generator 15. The generator 15 is stored with characters of the JIS 1st level, a dot information signal 57 corresponding to a code information signal 53 is generated from the generator 15 with a character energizing signal 55 from the circuit 17, and the signal 57 is applied to a print section 23. If the generator 15 has no character corresponding to the signal 53, a retrieval signal 61 is applied to an RAM19 from the circuit 17 to retrieve the character information with high frequency stored in the RAM19 with priority, allowing to supply a dot information signal 63 corresponding to a character dot pattern to a print section 23. |
