Process and apparatus for the bonding of at least two webs of material such as plastic film, metal foil or tape, paper or fabric, whereby the webs of material are subjected to a low-energy gas discharge in a vacuum. The technical problem solved by the invention is that of achieving a glue-free, strong and durable bond for webs of material, regardless of its composition. The web surfaces to be bonded are activated at an energy density of 10 to 10<4> mWs/cm<2> and then joined in line, exclusively by pressure and preferably with the addition of heat, in such a way that the direct material bond between the web surfaces corresponds to the adhesion coefficient of the weaker component in the bond. |
