The supplying of machine tools from material provided as a torch or crowns is possible in an autonomous mode even if the workpiece carrier spindle of the machine is rotating, due to that at least a cutting device (10, 11) separates from the torch a section to be introduced into the spindle. A second cutting device (19, 20) may be used for lengthing the section, which length may be a multiple of lengthes of the workpieces to be machined so as to reduce the length of the chute to a minimum, providing that one of the section cutting devices at least is adjustable in the axial position thereof. The wire must be straightened up and set by known means (5, 6, 7, 8). An extractor for the chute of material may be provided when the chute cannot be evacuated through the front of the spindles.
