PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object recognizing apparatus which has high reliability to recognition, is hardly affected by environmental conditions and in which initialization is easy to perform. SOLUTION: This object recognizing apparatus 1 is provided with an inputting part 190 for inputting a first set of images including a firs image representing an object by using a first attribute and a second image representing the first object by using a second attribute, a characteristic quantity vector calculation part 125 for calculating a first characteristic quantity vector in characteristic quantity space having at least on filter output value as a vector component, the at least one filter output value being obtained by applying at least one predetermined image filter to at least one predetermined position in the prescribed number of images in the first set of the images, and a judging part 140 for judging whether or not the object belongs to a specific category on the basis of the relation between the first characteristic quantity vector and a prescribed discriminant parameter.
