PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer, having a function for promoting printing, when documents waiting for printing cannot be outputted for long time and are held up and to provide a printing method. SOLUTION: The printer is provided with an image processing part 2 converting document data transferred from a host through an interface part 1 into image data which can be printed, a printing image preserving means 3 accumulating a plurality of pieces of image data, a picture managing part 4 managing the printing image preserving means 3 by using a printing management information table 10, a timer management part 5 receiving a notice from the image managing part 4 when image data is accumulated, registering deletion time in a deletion time table 11 and deleting picture data from the deletion time table 11, when the printing of image data is completed and when it comes to deletion time, a deletion notifying part 7 for receiving the notice from the picture managing part 4, when it comes to deletion time and giving the notice of the deletion of the document whose printing is requested to the host and a printing means 6 receiving the printing image from the image managing part 4 and performing printing processing.
