PURPOSE:To improve the rolling accuracy for steel plates in the stage of turning back the steel plate by the use of one roll out of two work rolls and subjecting the same to endless rolling, by providing a groove for allowing the passage of the steel plate to the backup roll on the side where the steel plate is turned back. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of rolling a steel plate with a rolling mill consisting of backup rolls 46, 48, and work rolls 42, 44, the roll 42 is used also as a tension roll and the plate 40 is run endlessly betweenthe same and another tension roll. The steel plate is rolled with the work rolls 42, 44. A hollow groove 50 of the width and depth respectively larger than the width and thickness of the plate 40 is provided to the roll 46 on the roll 42 side working as a tension roll. Since the plate 40 passes through the inside of the groove 50, it does not receive any press-down effect between the same and the roll 42. The press-down load of the roll 48 acts only between the rolls 42 and 44 and the stable press-down load is exerted upon the plate 40, whereby the flatness and straightness of the steel plate are improved. |
