PURPOSE:To elmiminate various defects occuring in coarse casting structure through refining of the structure in the surface layers of ingots by screwing down and deforming the initially solidified shell during casting by means of rolls inserted into a mold. CONSTITUTION:The driving power transmitted from motors to pulleys 2 is transmitted to gears 3, and racks 4 are moved by the revolution of the gears 3. As the racks 4 move, gears 5 for driving rolls are revolved by this, and rolls 6 for screwing down move circularly on the inside circumference of an initially solidified shell 12 while rotating. The roll 6 and roll shafts for screwing down 10 are made of materials that withstand the high temps. of molten steel. The casting structure is improved by this process and the number of blooming stages is reduced. |
