PURPOSE:To manufacture defect-free cast ingots stably over a long period of time by inserting a thermocouple in a rotary wheel in a continuous casting system and controlling the volume of cooling water in a cooling region on accordance with the change in the temp. measured by this. CONSTITUTION:In a belt and wheel type continuous casting system, a thermocouple 11 is inserted into a rotary wheel 1 under a channel 9 provided on the outside circumference of the rotary wheel 1, and the leading end 12 thereof is set on the central axis (a) of the wheel 1 at a constant distance from the bottom of the channel 9. The trailing end of the thermocouple 11 is connected to a slip type terminal provided to the shaft of plates 13, 13' supporting the ring 1, and the temp. signal in the wheel 1 is displayed via the terminal on a recorder. The temp. rise and fall patterns in the wheel 1 under casting at every one rotation are compared with preset standard temp. patterns, and according to the differences therebetween, the volume of the cooling water for the mold is increased or decreased so that the temp. fluctuation patterns in the wheel 1 are made coincident with the standard temp. patterns, whereby the merchandise quality ingots are produced stably over a long period of time. |
