<p>A lightweight building system uses a combination of modular wall panels and roof panels each comprising a peripheral frame of timber supporting an external face which is a composite 3-ply skin of glass fibre having high/low/high binder resin loadings respectively. Glass wool or similar insulation is bonded to the internal face of the skin to fill the body of the panel. The surface of the wall panels is plane. The outer face of the roof panels is stepped to resemble conventional tiles and the lower edge of the skin of one panel projects to cover the upper border of the adjacent panel lower down the roof. For buildings which can be erected quickly and without requiring conventional solid foundations: the panels weigh about 5 kg/m2 and a 100 m2 enclosure can be obtd. using about 8 wall panels and 15 roof panels. The panels can be assembled using bolts, nails, adhesives, etc. The layers of cloth may be successively mounted on the frames and impregnated to appropriate resin loadings.</p> |
