PURPOSE:To surely detect the multi-feed of paper money without effect of fatigue of the paper money or deterioration of the light element by means of such constitution as to determine the multi-feed in accordance with the ratio between the quantity of the reflection of light from the sheet of the paper and the quantity of the transmitted light. CONSTITUTION:When the paper money 5 is transported, and comes to the position of the paper money passage detection device 3, and the detected output S1 is given to the zone signal generating circuit 6, the circuit 6 starts counting the pulse S2 coming from the synchronous pulse generator 7. In this time reflected light quantity detection signal S4 and transmitted light quantity detection signal S5 are obtained by the reflected light quantity detection element 4c and transmitted light quantity detection element 4b respectively, and those signals S4, and S5 are inputted to the multi-feed decision circuit 8 together with the output signal S3 from the above circuit 6, to have the presence of any multi-feed checked. The decision circuit 8 includes the division circuit which calculates the ratio between the above signal S4 and S5, and when the output exceeds the standard value, multi-feed signal will be issued. |
