<p>A carpet is made with a wrapped yarn, comprising a tow or sliver with parallel fibres, whose cohesion and strength are improved by wrapping with a single filament which is shrinkable, and wound spirally around the tow. The tow is pref. previously dyed, and the shrinkable monofilament yarn is pref. a thermo-shrinkable elastomer. By using wrapped, parallel fibres, loops of carpet, when cut, offer a very regular surface. The heat-shrinkable wrapping yarn holds the loops in towards the backing, and disappear from the surface after shrinkage.</p> |
