The reservoir (1) is connected between a main heating boiler and circuit (I) and a supplementary or standby boiler (II). The reservoir has an upper inlet branch (2) connected to the outlet (5) from the main boiler and a lower branch (3) connected to the standby boiler through a spring-loaded non-return valve (14) and a circulating pump (16). The outlet (9) from the standby boiler is connected to the main circuit (I) and to the top of the reservoir (1) through a tee (12) and a balance valve (13). The pipework can be arranged also for parallel operation.
