PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of communication by greatly decreasing the amount of transmitted information by photoelectrically converting data in an area specified by format information, and then transmitting it as a character code. CONSTITUTION:Reflected light from a document 1 is supplied to a main scanning mechanism 3, where it is changed into a digital signal for one scan before being held in a line buffer 6. A scanning output regarding a character area is held in the pattern memory of a recognizing circuit 7, and it is converted there into a character code, which is supplied to a control circuit 8. This character code is stored temporarily in an external memory 10 by a signal processing circuit 9, but the signal processing circuit 9 is supplied with format information previously, and after the character data is stored according to the information, a signal is sent to the control circuit 8 to start a scan in a next image area. The digital signal of the image area is stored in the external memory 10 without being passed through the recognizing circuit 7 and once an image for one document is stored, error correction is performed by using a CRT12 and a keyboard 13. |
