The drive consists of a linear motor (2), preferably a travelling-field induction motor, which can be moved in a deliberate manner along a semicircular metallic conductor (1) and is attached to a toothed rod (6) which can be displaced parallel to the conductor (1), in a frame (5). After reaching the desired azimuth position of the frame (5), a first brake (4) is operated which fixes its position with respect to the conductor (1). At the same time, a second brake (9) is operated which fixes the position of the motor (2) on the frame (5). If the motor (2) is operated further, the toothed rod (6) is displaced with respect to the frame (5) and causes a gearwheel (7) to rotate about a second pivoting axis (B), as a result of which the angle of a mirror (8) (which is firmly connected thereto) with respect to the horizontal is adjusted. The brakes (4 and 9) preferably have brake shoes (41, 49) which are pressed against the conductor (1) and the frame (5) by spring force and are optionally lifted out of their braking position under the influence of further induction coils when a power source (11) is switched on via a switch (10). <IMAGE>
