A composition of matter is described suitable for use as fluorescent screen in X-ray photography. The composition of matter comprises halide-containing phosphor particles and in order to improve the stability against moisture of these particles, a non-metal organic compound of the formula R-X or X-R min -X wherein R and R<1> are organic groups preferably comprising at least 6 C-atoms, and not containing a reactive hydrogen as does X, and X is a group containing a reactive hydrogen atom. The compound has a solubility of not more than 5 g in 100 ml of water at 15 DEG C.
