The invention relates to monofunctional catalysts for dehydrocyclising paraffins and to a method for preparing them. The catalysts according to the invention are characterised in that they contain from 0.1 to 1.5% of platinum and from 0.1 to 1.5% of rhenium which is applied in the form of rhenium carbonyl, as well as a small proportion of sulphur which is introduced, via a sulphur compound reducible or decomposable with hydrogen, in such a way that the ratio x of the number of sulphur atoms to the number of atoms of platinum and rhenium on the catalyst is between 0.05 and 0.6. The catalysts according to the invention have a support of a crystalline, zeolitic alumosilicate which is compensated, to more than 90%, with alkali metal cations and has a pore diameter greater than 6.5 ANGSTROM .
