摘要
1431437 Power-assisted steering mechanism BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 13 July 1973 [19 July 1972 9 Aug 1972 2 Dec 1972] 33871/72 37144/72 and 55785/72 Heading B7H A power-assisted steering control device comprises fluid inlet and outlet ports 111, 110, a flow divider ring 29, which divides flow from the inlet port 111 between two flow conduits 54, 55 and is arranged to restrict flow to one conduit in response to an increase in pressure in the other, a valve spigot 90 carried by an input shaft 82 and displaceable in either direction from a neutral position in a bore 56 in a valve head 25 on a worm shaft 7, and output conduits 57, 58 connecting the conduits 54, 55 to respective chambers 12, 13 on opposite sides of a piston 4, the valve spigot 90 being formed with control edges 97, 98 for variably restricting communication between the conduits 54, 55 and passages 99, 100 leading to the outlet port 110 when the spigot is displaced, and with reaction cavities 95, 96 in which fluid pressure produces reaction forces which are transmitted to the input shaft 82. The flow divider ring 29 is located by a pin 28 so as to be freely radially movable in an annular chamber 30 from which fluid flows into the conduits 54, 55 through ports 50-53 in the ring. When the pressure in one conduit 54, 55 increases due to displacement of the valve spigot 90 by the input member 82 the resultant fluid pressure change across the ports in the corresponding side of the ring 29 moves the ring to restrict flow into the other conduit 54, 55. The reaction cavities 96, 95 give rise to reaction forces which are dependent on the pressures in the conduits 54, 55, and further reaction cavities 101-104 formed between the control edges 97, 98 and further control edges downstream thereof give rise to reaction forces which are flow dependent. The input shaft 82 is connected to the worm shaft 7 by a torsion rod 85, and a nut 3 secured to the piston 4 engages the worm shaft through recirculating balls 6. Teeth 11 on the piston 4 mesh with a sector gear 9 on a rocker shaft 10. In a control device, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), for a rack-and-pinion steering system a cylindrical valve spigot (290) coaxial with the pinion 130 projects into a bore (256) in a tubular valve body (225) which is surrounded by the flow divider ring (229) and has internal control edges and reaction cavities. In another embodiment, Figs. 10(a), 10(b) (not shown), the input shaft carries a spade-shaped valve member (305) which is loosely received in a slot in a valve housing on the worm shaft, and a bobbintype flow divider valve (325) is provided. In a further embodiment, Figs. 13(a), 13(b) (not shown), the input shaft has diametricallyopposite grooves (415, 416) which carry cylindrical valve slugs (417, 418) received in grooves (419, 420) in a valve ring attached to the worm shaft, and a ball-type flow divider valve (430) is provided. The flow divider valve may alternatively have a cylindrical valve member with conical ends.
