Using a hood-type shielding device, the invention allows sunbathing regardless of the season, not only a windshield being provided, but screening of lower outside temperatures also being possible. The hood is essentially rigid and consists of material which is permeable to the physiologically active range of the ultraviolet rays. The hood is expediently connected to a bed by means of a joint extending in the longitudinal direction of the bed so that it is permanently ready for use. The bed itself, together with the hood, can be swivelled both in the horizontal plane and in the vertical plane so that it can be adapted in the best possible manner to the respective irradiation conditions.
