PURPOSE:To produce a high-polymerization activity, high-bulk density polymer in high yields, by using a catalyst consisting of an organometallic compound and a specified solid catalytic component. CONSTITUTION:A solid catalytic component is prepared by contacting and reacting a magnesium halide (e.g., anhydrous magnesium chloride) with a compound represented by the formula: Me(OR)nX2-n (e.g., Mg(OC2H5)2, B(OC2H5)2Cl), a compound represented by the formula: Si(OR')mX4-m (e.g., monomethoxytrichlorosilane) and a titanium compound (e.g., titanium tetrachloride, titanium tetrabromide) and/or a vanadium compound (e.g., vanadium tetrachloride, vanadium tetrabromide) at about 20-400 deg.C for about 5min-20hr. A catalyst is prepared from the solid catalystic component and an organometallic compound (e.g., triethylalumium, diethylzinc). Continuous polymerization can be carried out quite easily by using the catalyst.
