PURPOSE:To obtain copolymer particles capable of providing foams excellent in heat resistance, by employing methyl methacrylate, alpha-methylstyrene and, in addition, a specified third component, carrying out impregration with a blowing agent after suspension polymerization and effecting the suspension polymerization at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:The titled copolymer particles are produced by suspension- polymerizing a vinyl compound composition consisting of (A) 50-87wt% methyl methacrylate, (B) 12-45wt% alpha-methylstyrene and (C) 1-5wt% vinyl compound, other than methyl methacrylate, obtained by reacting a 1-18C aliphatic alcohol with (meth)acrylic acid at 95-130 deg.C in the presence of a polymerization initiator, adding a blowing agent to the aqueous dispersion containing the dispersed copolymer particles to impregnate the same with the blowing agent and separating the impregrated copolymer particles from the aqueous medium. |
