<p>A fusing machine comprises two platens one located above the other, at least one platen being heatable, one platen (20) being movable linearly towards the other to hold the items to be fused together between the platens, said one platen (20) being movable by means of a jacking mechanism (22) acting between said platen and a frame (38) of the machine.
