PURPOSE:To read characters surely, by changing conditions to recognize again an obtained quantization pattern while rotating the output axis reversely when characters cannot be recognized sufficiently by a quantization pattern which is stored while rotating a mirror. CONSTITUTION:The center of a character line to be scanned of a form 9 is matched to the point indicated by an arrow X. A mirror 2 is rotated counterclockwise to focus optical images on the form 9 successively from a point A toward a point B onto a one-dimensional image sensor 4, and these optical images are converted to electric signals and are amplified by a quantizing circuit 5 and ae quantized with a prescribed slice level. These quantized information are stored in prescribed addresses of a line buffer 6 successively synchronously with the rotation angle of the mirror 2. One-character components of information are cut out from the line buffer 6 and are recognized in a device 7 and are processed. If they cannot be recognized, a controlling part 8 instructs the change of the amplification degree of electric signals, the change of the slice level, and the change of the rotation speed of the output axis in accordance with conditions to scan the character line again. |
